Environmental Project Management

  • 24 hour course, no prerequisites

Address­ing envi­ron­men­tal impact is crit­i­cal for project suc­cess. This course cov­ers engi­neer­ing and tech­nol­o­gy prob­lem solv­ing tech­niques includ­ing issue iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, sit­u­a­tion mon­i­tor­ing, out­come pro­jec­tion, release and escape con­trol, treat­ment, and pre­ven­tion meth­ods includ­ing source abate­ment, min­i­miz­ing risk, and process mod­i­fi­ca­tion. Con­cepts such as plan­ning, imple­men­ta­tion, and doc­u­men­ta­tion of require­ments will also be cov­ered. This course approach­es issues unique­ly from both civ­il and reg­u­la­to­ry per­spec­tives; beyond the focus of time and cost con­trol with­in con­ven­tion­al project man­age­ment. Prac­ti­cal case study exam­ples and sce­nario act­ing will rein­force learning.

  • While there are no prerequisites for this course, prior knowledge of geology, ecosystems, soil science, and hydrology is recommended for student success.
  • Assessment includes an in-class final exam.
