Exploring the History of Indigenous Arts and Artists

There is no word for art” in many Indige­nous lan­guages because art was, and is, cul­tur­al­ly, a way of life. This course will intro­duce par­tic­i­pants to a brief his­to­ry of Indige­nous artists and art prac­tices, includ­ing draw­ing, water­colour, col­lage and mixed media. Through guid­ed exer­cis­es, stu­dents explore dif­fer­ent medi­ums, gen­res and prac­tices from Indige­nous perspectives.
