Techniques of the Old Masters

Gain prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence as well as insight into past tech­ni­cal devel­op­ments from a vari­ety of his­tor­i­cal peri­ods. While paint­ing from a mod­el and still life, you will become famil­iar with the use of under­lay­ers, glaz­ing, scum­bling, velatu­ra, dead col­or, and gri­saille. Empha­sis will be placed upon study­ing the art works of the Old Mas­ters with a spe­cial inter­est for their use of the trans­par­ent paint vs. opaque paint.
