Drawing into Abstraction

Explore the tran­si­tion from rep­re­sen­ta­tion­al to abstract draw­ing through the appli­ca­tion of var­i­ous meth­ods and a vari­ety of mate­ri­als. Work­ing pri­mar­i­ly from obser­va­tion, explore both wet and dry draw­ing tools, includ­ing ink, wash, colour, col­lage, resists, cray­on, con­te, paint, char­coal, pen, and graphite. Stu­dents will be encour­aged to explore increas­ing­ly com­plex for­mal, con­cep­tu­al, and com­po­si­tion­al ele­ments, and will work towards a self-direct­ed body of drawings.
