Figure Drawing I

This is a stu­dio based course intend­ed to pro­vid­ed stu­dents with a broad range of infor­ma­tion and expe­ri­ence (both prac­ti­cal and con­cep­tu­al) with­in the con­text of draw­ing the fig­ure. The main focus will be work­ing from the nude mod­el with an empha­sis on human anato­my as well as per­spec­tive and com­po­si­tion. In this intro­duc­to­ry fig­ure draw­ing course, we will exam­ine how line and val­ue rela­tion­ships affect the descrip­tion of human form. Stu­dents will gain expe­ri­ence work­ing from direct obser­va­tion fur­ther devel­op­ing pro­por­tion and sight­ing. Assign­ments are struc­tured to allow stu­dents to explore a vari­ety of approach­es to fig­u­ra­tive draw­ing, includ­ing ges­ture, con­tour, and sus­tained draw­ings. The course exer­cis­es will grad­u­al­ly increase in range and com­plex­i­ty. Com­ple­tion of EXART 3006 is strong­ly recommended.
