Tea Ceremony: A Gateway to Japanese Culture

Enjoy a first-hand expe­ri­ence of the spir­it of hos­pi­tal­i­ty embod­ied by the Japan­ese tea cer­e­mo­ny, as you prac­tice serv­ing and receiv­ing tea using tra­di­tion­al uten­sils. Learn about envi­ron­ment asso­ci­at­ed with the cer­e­mo­ny: the tea room, the gar­den, tea uten­sils, and the toko no ma. Explore the his­to­ry of this tra­di­tion start­ed by Zen monks in the 13th cen­tu­ry and under­stand why the tea cer­e­mo­ny devel­oped the way it did.
