Geotechnical Consideration for Underground Trenchless Construction
This course will introduce students to the many geotechnical features that must be considered before the start of trenchless construction. Through the establishment of what constitutes “Geotechnical”, students will learn what aspects of the site’s sub-ground must be surveyed before trenchless installation may begin. Students will have the chance to discover why these considerations are significant to trenchless construction, as well as learn the adverse results of disregarding the site’s geotechnical features.
Course at a glance
- Full-day interactive workshop with case study review, lecture, and group interaction.
- Offered in collaboration with the Consortium for Engineered Trenchless Technologies (CETT) and the Faculty of Engineering, University of Alberta.
- Aimed at construction professionals and engineers, as well as managers, project managers, supervisors, and business owners in related areas.
This course may be eligible to count as CPD hours for membership maintenance with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
What you will learn
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
• Understand that the necessary site considerations will change depending on what type of trenchless technology will be used.
• Identify the risks associated with improper geotechnical inspections and know how to mitigate those risks.
• Recognize the importance of evaluating and understanding the ground condition of each site, realizing that each site requires unique attention.
• Demonstrate understanding of the significance of site conditions on achieving a successful outcome to trenchless projects.
