Fire Safety Program

  • 14 hour course, no prerequisites

This course focus­es on Fire and Life Safe­ty in the work­place. The objec­tives of this course are to devel­op an under­stand­ing of, and the abil­i­ty to apply con­cepts, prin­ci­ples, and prac­tices involved in the eval­u­a­tion, con­trol, pre­ven­tion, reduc­tion, and elim­i­na­tion of fire haz­ards, and to help the prac­tic­ing occu­pa­tion­al health and safe­ty pro­fes­sion­als or those who aspire for a career in health and safe­ty in the work­place, devel­op the min­i­mum require­ments nec­es­sary to estab­lish a rea­son­able lev­el of fire safe­ty and prop­er­ty pro­tec­tion from the haz­ards cre­at­ed by fire.

  • Aimed at entry-level and practicing health and safety coordinators, professionals, officers, technicians, supervisors, trainers, management, and administrators.
What you will learn

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Understand the legislation governing fire and life safety.
  • Identify industry standards relating to fire and life safety.
  • Understand the basics of fire prevention and protection.
  • Develop a Fire Safety Plan.
  • Understand the basics of fire science and chemistry.
  • Understand the basics of fire suppression equipment inspection and maintenance.
  • Identify hazards presented by different materials in the workplace and control mechanisms.
  • Define the different classes of fire.

  • Printed lecture slides will be provided in class.
